BU Adventures have been doing quite a bit of local exploring during our enforced stay during the lockdown. It seems that lots others have gotten the message and its great to see so many enjoying the outdoors and the wonders that mother nature has given us in this area.
What are my top walks in the Northern Beaches
I have a compiled a list of 6 Rock Scrambles and 5 Coastal and Bushland hikes, not in any order they are all fabulous in their own right. Depending on whether you would like a short and sharp or more lengthy immersion, there is one to suit all of us.
1. Barrenjoey Headland
2. Newport to Mona Vale
3. Warriewood to Narrabeen
4. Palm Beach to Whale Beach
5. Dee Why to Nth Curl Curl
6. Freshie to Queensie (hole in the wall)
Local Hikes and Walks
Resolute Beach Trail Kur-ing-ai National Park - 5km undulating loop lots of steep stairs. Moderate fitness required.
Barrenjoey Lighthouse Trail - 3km easy to moderate
The Spit to Manly walk - 10km Moderate
Seaforth Oval to the Bluff Lookout - 5km loop
Lighthouse to Boathouse (Palm Beach to Manly) with a dip in each of the ocean pools* - 30 km Moderate
All of these walks/hikes are easily accessible and suitable for most reasonably fit individuals. If you need directions I would download the All Trails App onto your phone and simply log in and search for your trail. The app will give you directions and track your walk/hike.
*Lighthouse to Boathouse with a dip in the ocean pools along the way. This is a more challenging full day hike, one that would need to be undertaken in warmer months when the ocean temperature is conducive to a dip in each pool along the way. The 'rules' are:
Start at the Boathouse at Palm Beach
Finish at the Boathouse at Shelly Beach
Refreshment stops mandatory along the way - yes we need our coffee!
Take to the beach and soft surfaces whenever possible
Weather permitting a full day out with an early start at 6am - finish by 3-5pm
Should you need it, grab an Uber or bus across some sections - Only two allowed!!
